Welcome to the Seven Havens: A Spoiler-Light Guide

The Cataclysm, the havens, the twins and why the world fears the Avatar, 225 years after Korra.

Avatar: Seven Havens is the third animated Avatar series and the first new one since The Legend of Korra ended in 2014. Book One: Survival began streaming on Paramount+ on October 9, 2026. This guide covers the setup without spoilers. The premiere's big twist sits in a clearly marked section further down.

When and where

The show is set about 225 years after The Legend of Korra, according to co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi in an interview with Polygon, as relayed by Bleeding Cool.

In that time, a disaster called the Cataclysm shattered the world. It damaged both the physical world and the Spirit World, and the show hasn't yet explained what caused it. Survivors now live in seven fortified havens, the last strongholds of civilization. Outside the walls are wastelands battered by storms and spirits. Over two centuries, the old national cultures have blended together.

The story starts in Ellora. Sethi said the haven is named after India's Ellora Caves and that the world draws on AAPI and Indigenous cultures. The official Paramount+ guide spells the city Alora, but Sethi and most coverage use Ellora, and so do we.

Benders are rare in this era. In Ellora, a bending Brigade trains young benders to defend the haven.

Why the world fears the Avatar

Much of the world blames Korra for the Cataclysm. As a result, people now see the Avatar as humanity's destroyer rather than its protector, which is a dangerous thing to be when you discover you are one.

The Paramount+ guide adds two details from Korra's era: the portals between the human world and the Spirit World are open, and Korra lost her connection to past Avatars. Michael Dante DiMartino has said the show leans into mystery, including why the world fell, why the Avatar is hated and how Pavi lost her leg.

Meet the cast

  • Pavi (Saheli Khan): a young earthbender who is unhoused and an amputee. She discovers she is the Avatar after Korra and is hunted by human and spirit enemies.
  • Nisha (Aishu Devan): Pavi's long-lost twin sister.
  • Jae (Major Curda): an airbender who is Pavi's mentor and friend.
  • Karthik (Akshay Khanna): captain of Ellora's guard. The Paramount+ guide calls him a master airbender known as the Human Hurricane.
  • Agam (Sakina Jaffrey), Daemin (Darren Barnet) and Zi (Dianne Doan): official materials haven't described these characters yet.
  • Geet and Ruhi (Dee Bradley Baker): the twins' cat-monkey companions. Geet travels with Pavi from the start.

Spoiler zone: the premiere

Stop here if you haven't watched episodes 1–3.

  • Twin Avatars. Pavi and Nisha are both the Avatar. It's the first time the cycle has produced two people at once.
  • Nisha's hiding place. Karthik found Nisha three years earlier and kept her as his ward while she hid her powers. NickALive's recap says he belongs to the Order of the White Lotus and begins training both sisters.
  • Missing parents. Neither twin remembers their parents, and finding them becomes part of their goal.
  • An old enemy. Recaps relayed by NickALive from Variety say a storm brings in a smaller form of Vaatu, the dark spirit from The Legend of Korra. He can possess people, and he escapes after the twins stop him. Slate's review refers only to an unnamed entity, so how big Vaatu's role is will become clearer as Book One continues.
  • Pavi's age. Slate describes Pavi as 9. Official materials only call her young.

Release schedule

Book One has 13 half-hour episodes, released in weekly batches on Paramount+:

  • Episodes 1–3: October 9
  • Episodes 4–6: October 16
  • Episodes 7–9: October 23
  • Episodes 10–13: October 30, ending with the finale, The Root Chakra

The rollout isn't identical everywhere. In SkyShowtime's European markets, the series streams exclusively on SkyShowtime from October 17. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, it streams on Paramount+ on the regular schedule as Avatar: Die Sieben Häfen.

What's next

Book 2 was ordered alongside Book One in February 2025 and has 13 episodes, but no release date. On premiere day, DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko announced at their New York Comic Con panel that Paramount+ had renewed the show for Books 3 and 4. No episode counts or dates have been given for either.

Knight Edge Media reported that voice recording resumed in February 2026 and speculated that later books could jump ahead in time so the twins are teenagers. Paramount hasn't confirmed either claim.

Behind the scenes

  • Creators: DiMartino and Konietzko, who began talking about a post-Korra earthbending Avatar series in early 2021.
  • Producers: Ethan Spaulding is executive producer, and Sethi is co-executive producer.
  • Supervising director: Alexandra Chiu, who made Animation Magazine's 2026 Rising Stars of Animation list.
  • Music: Jeremy Zuckerman, the franchise's longtime composer, returns.
  • Animation: Wikipedia and Knight Edge Media's review name the French studio La Chouette Compagnie. Official press materials have not credited an animation studio.

Critics have been kind so far. Rotten Tomatoes lists 100% positive from 20 reviews, and Metacritic's critic score is 80. Viewers are more split, with uneven animation the most common complaint.
