The Avatar is reborn into a new nation each time, in the cycle Fire, Air, Water, Earth. Only a handful of Avatars have their own stories so far, but 2026 added a few more. Here they are in order, with where to meet them.

Sonam An Avatar from thousands of years before Aang, during an Air Nomad golden age. Her staff drives the plot of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, where Freida Pinto voices her. Where: the 2026 film, and Sonam's temple is coming to Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game as a stage.

Szeto A Fire Nation Avatar and Yangchen's predecessor. Where: mentioned in the novels; little of his story has been told.

Yangchen A revered Air Nomad Avatar. Where: F.C. Yee's novels The Dawn of Yangchen and The Legacy of Yangchen, and Season 2 of Netflix's live-action series (Dichen Lachman).

Where: The Last Airbender's finale, the Kyoshi novels, Netflix's Season 1, and the new animated series Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, which covers his teenage years. Our Kuruk primer has more.
