The State of Avatar Games in 2026

At the end of 2024, Avatar's game slate looked like the reverse of today. Maximum Entertainment had just written off its Avatar fighting game, and Saber Interactive's newly announced AAA RPG was the big project to watch. Now the fighter is out and patching steadily, and the RPG is the one in limbo. Here is where every Avatar game stands, with each pending date marked as confirmed or not.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game

The fighter took an unusual road. Maximum Entertainment announced an Avatar competitive fighting game in February 2024, then wrote it off as a cancelled title, as reported in December 2024. Gameplay Group International, a studio set up to revive cancelled games, brought it back with a reveal in October 2025.

It launched July 23, 2026 on PS5, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch, published by PM Studios and Paramount Games Studio. The Standard Edition is $29.99, and the $49.99 Deluxe Edition adds the Year 1 Pass. The Xbox Series X|S version was pulled hours before launch over a backend issue, promised by September 3, and confirmed available by mid-September. The Switch version launched without cross-play or non-English text.

The hand-drawn 2D fighter launched with 12 characters: Avatar Aang, Aang, Zuko, Katara, Toph, Sokka, Azula, Kyoshi, Ozai, Korra, Nightmare Korra and Zaheer. Each fighter has selectable support characters, such as Appa, Momo and Gyatso for Aang.

Reviews were positive. Metacritic lists 77 on PS5 and 80 on PC, and OpenCritic shows a 78 average with 59% of critics recommending it. Critics praised the animation and combat and wanted more single-player content.

Updates since launch:

• July 29 (Steam first): the Samurai Appa support skin, keyboard remapping, Deluxe Edition colors and bug fixes.
• Patch 2.5, September 2: Ranked Mode 1.0 with cross-play, a PS5 low-latency mode and a separate queue for players who disconnect too often.
• Patch 3.0, October 7: public lobbies for 2 to 16 players with live spectating, rewind and fast-forward; a fully reanimated and rebalanced Ozai; background characters in Ba Sing Se; and an easier start to Story Mode. It is live on Steam, PS5 and Xbox, with Switch to follow shortly.

At New York Comic Con on October 9, the Avatar panel showed Seven Havens-themed colors for every fighter and a new stage set in Sonam's temple. Neither has a release date.

Still pending, with no official dates:

• Year 1 Pass: Uncle Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong and Bolin, revealed at EVO 2026 in Las Vegas in June. Pre-order buyers choose a fifth fighter from Tenzin, Kuvira, Amon, King Bumi and Asami. No release dates or vote winner have been announced.
• Tagah: the ancient airbender from the film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, voiced there by Dave Bautista, is coming free to all players. He got a first look at PAX West and is still listed only for later this year.
• Switch 2 and physical editions: PM Studios has said both arrive later in 2026. A US Amazon listing shows October 28 for the physical Switch and Switch 2 versions, but that is a retailer date, not an announcement. The October 23 Switch 2 date on Wikipedia cites the same retailer roundup and isn't supported by it.

The game is also up for Favorite Video Game at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards on November 14.

The AAA RPG: on hold, or reset

Saber Interactive and Paramount announced a co-funded AAA action RPG on October 3, 2024. It was set thousands of years before Aang and starred a new Avatar who masters all four elements. It never got a title or a release date.

In early June 2026, Shawn Kittelsen of the newly formed Paramount Games Studio told IGN the game wasn't in production when the new team took over, and that a AAA Avatar game could still happen later in a different form. The studio, announced June 5, combines Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media with Paramount's games team. It counts Avatar among its four core franchises, with TMNT, SpongeBob and Star Trek.

Co-creator Bryan Konietzko answered on Instagram on June 10. He said the project had suffered a big setback but had been reset, not cancelled, and promised official news. No update has been reported from Comic-Con in July or New York Comic Con in October. A working title has circulated in fan coverage, but no primary source backs it.

Mobile: Avatar: Realms Collide

Tilting Point's free-to-play 4X strategy game, developed by AN Games, launched worldwide on March 18, 2025 for iOS, Android and PC via Google Play. Players choose an element, build a city and recruit heroes from every era.

The story was written with Avatar Studios and series writer Tim Hedrick. It features Father Glowworm, the spirit from F.C. Yee's Kyoshi novels, plus new villains Chanyu, Borte and Murong. The current server-vs-server pre-season, "Glowworm's Ruse," runs October 3 to 30.

By its first anniversary in April, the game had passed 2.9 million installs and won a Pocket Gamer Award for Best Strategy Game. A July update added Mad King Bumi and Sapphire Fire Katara as heroes.

Tabletop

• Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game: Magpie Games' line raised about $9.53 million on Kickstarter in 2021 and lets players make their own characters across five eras: Kyoshi, Roku, the Hundred Year War, Aang and Korra. Its long-delayed Spirit World sourcebook goes to Kickstarter late this fall, Magpie told backers on August 24. No launch date had been posted as of October 13.
• Voyage of the Unity: Beadle & Grimm's Roku-era boxed campaign, five linked adventures aboard a Four Nations research ship, funded on Kickstarter in 2025. Screen Rant reported an October 31 retail date from a store listing, but Beadle & Grimm's own Avatar page now says it is coming in 2027.
• Avatar: Journey of Aang: Bad Crow Games' co-op board game for 1 to 4 players raised more than $635,000 on Gamefound. Earlier coverage said backers would get it from mid-October, but the publisher's September 26 update moved shipping to February 2027, with printing starting October 10.
• Magic: The Gathering: the Avatar: The Last Airbender set came out on tabletop on November 21, 2025. In February, Hasbro said it ranks third in all-time Magic sales, behind Lord of the Rings and Final Fantasy. Wizards of the Coast lists no follow-up Avatar product for 2026.

Crossovers

Aang and Katara race into Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on October 14 in an Avatar Legends DLC pack. It adds both as racers, an Air-themed glider and a course on Lion Turtle Island. Pricing and a full platform list had not been reported as of October 13.

Esports

At EVO 2026 in Las Vegas in June, the team used the event's showcase stage to reveal the Year 1 Pass. In October, Avatar Legends was one of seven main tournament titles at EVO France in Nice, and its Top 8 was broadcast. Patch 3.0 marked the event with an EVO France color for Katara. Sources list the event dates anywhere from October 8 to 11, and the winner was not reported in the coverage we checked.

Paramount Games also scheduled a free Avatar Legends tournament, with a $1,750 prize pool, at an OS NYC takeover during New York Comic Con.
