Paramount's Big-Budget Avatar RPG Is on Hold; Konietzko Says It Was Reset, Not Cancelled

The Saber Interactive project announced in 2024 never got a title or a date.

The AAA Avatar action RPG that Saber Interactive and Paramount announced in October 2024 is no longer in production. Shawn Kittelsen of the newly formed Paramount Games Studio told IGN the game was not in production when the new team took over, and that a AAA Avatar game could still happen later in a different form.

The game was pitched as an action RPG set thousands of years before Aang, starring a brand-new Avatar. It never got a title or release date.

Co-creator Bryan Konietzko pushed back on reports that it had been cancelled. In a June 10 Instagram post, he said the project had suffered a big setback but had been reset. No update followed at Comic-Con or NYCC.

Paramount Games Studio was formed on June 5 by combining Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media with Paramount's games team. It counts Avatar among its four core franchises, with TMNT, SpongeBob and Star Trek. A working title for the RPG has circulated in fan coverage, but we have found no primary source for it.
