Seven Havens' Twin Avatars Can Energybend, and DiMartino Says It's a Big Part of Their Story

Spoilers for Chapter 6 of Avatar: Seven Havens, "Night of the Afflicted."

Pavi and Nisha can energybend. In "Night of the Afflicted," released October 16, Paramount+ says Karthik and the twins must quell a mass panic among the Afflicted in the hospital.

GamesRadar+ reports the red Anomaly is once again drawn to the twins and unlocks a memory of their parents, before they dispel it using energybending. Karthik names what they did, Fiction Horizon notes.

What the creators said

In an exclusive interview, co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino told GamesRadar+, "That's definitely a big part of their story." He said each twin can bend all four elements, though neither is at the top level yet, and that learning how energybending works is a big part of their journey.

Co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi said energybending is closely related to spirit energy, which clearly exists in the show's world, so the series plays with it.

Why energybending matters

Energybending is the ability to bend another person's life energy, and GamesRadar+ notes it has traditionally been learned only from past Avatars or lion turtles. Aang used it to remove Phoenix King Ozai's firebending, and Korra learned it from Aang's spirit. The outlet calls the twins' innate grasp of it at such a young age a big deal, and suggests dispelling the Anomaly this way could mean it is a spirit. Our look at the Anomaly has more.

Benders are also growing scarce: TheWrap's review notes that fewer are born each year, and TV Guide's review says every bender in Ellora must register with the government.
