Seven Havens Chapter 5 Recap: "The One Left Behind"
A rumor about the Avatar pushes Ellora toward a riot, while Pavi and Nisha open a secret door and learn what their parents asked of Karthik.
Full spoilers for Chapter 5 of Avatar: Seven Havens.
Chapter 5, "The One Left Behind," runs on two tracks. In TV Guide's summary, Jae and Karthik look into rumors that put the girls in danger, while Pavi and Nisha sneak into Karthik's office for answers about their parents. Kenji Ono directed the chapter and Jennifer Cho Suhr wrote it. It was released October 16 with Chapters 4 and 6. Our characters guide has a refresher on who's who in Ellora.
A rumor loose in Ellora
After the clash with the Faceless, word spreads that the Bending Brigade is hiding the Avatar, so Karthik orders the twins to stay out of sight. Jae calms the Brigade's fears, including those of his boyfriend, Datu (Topher Ngo). But Why Tho points out the bind that puts Jae in: he has to keep the twins' secret even from Datu, who is growing suspicious along with the other guards.
According to FandomWire, the man who saw the twins during the Faceless battle and spread the rumor is afflicted by the red Anomaly. He storms the stage while Chancellor Kayoko is addressing the city's fears and threatens to kill her, until Karthik subdues him. IGN names a city guard, Molin (Osric Chau), who is now possessed by the red entity and believes the Avatar is in town.
As guards hunt for the Avatar, Ellora slides into what IGN calls an almost-riot. The chapter still makes room for a laugh: an old woman answers Jae's impassioned pleas with a raspberry and gets carried off by a large man.
Karthik's secret room
The twins search the archives for clues about their parents in Nisha's scrolls and accidentally open a secret door. Behind it is Karthik's hidden room of artifacts, which IGN says were collected by the Order of the White Lotus. Gizmodo singles out a Blue Spirit mask, a Republic City-era radio that it says plays a major role in plot developments involving the other havens, and Korra and Asami action figures that Pavi makes kiss. Our Easter egg roundup covers the rest, and the Korra connections piece digs into that Korrasami moment.
What their parents left
The twins also find a message their parents wrote to Karthik, asking him to find Nisha, the Avatar, in the Harshlands while a storm destroyed their home. FandomWire says they turn up a green amulet identical to Pavi's, too. In IGN's account, a rediscovered bracelet paired with Pavi's brooch shows that the parents were trying to hide the twins and had contacted the Order of the White Lotus. When Karthik got there, he found only Nisha, alone in the wasteland.
The one left behind
Nisha feels Karthik kept the truth from her and comes away believing her parents abandoned her. Pavi, who isn't mentioned in the message, starts to doubt that her parents even knew her as the Avatar, and she doubts her own skills. Karthik assures them both that they are on the right path.
But Why Tho calls the chapter "a particularly strong character-building piece for Nisha," and singles out Aishu Devan's emotional performance as the young Avatar.
