Seven Havens Chapter 6 Recap: "Night of the Afflicted"

Fear turns Ellora's hospital into a battleground, Pavi learns something new about her leg, and the red diamond comes back for the twins.

Full spoilers for Chapter 6 of Avatar: Seven Havens.

Chapter 6 names the thing eating at Ellora: fear. TV Guide's synopsis sends Karthik and the twins to calm a mass panic among the Afflicted in the hospital while Jae handles unrest in the Bending Brigade. Jen Bennett directed, and Peter H. Lee wrote the episode.

Pavi's leg

Pavi is hit by severe pain from her phantom limb. A doctor's diagnosis changes what she believed about herself: she lost her lower left leg within the past few years, though she thought she was born without it.

The doctor takes her prosthetic to build a new one and gives her a crutch. Pavi, used to fending for herself, insists she can manage alone, and Nisha's pity only makes her more defensive.

The Afflicted

The red crystals the storm left behind keep spreading, and the benders who prune them keep getting hit by their energy and sent for care. Those exposed, overwhelmed by fear and violent hallucinations, are kept in a sick ward as the Afflicted. Bountan and Lan are among the patients.

When the twins wander into the ward with Karthik, the Afflicted see them as grinning, red-eyed demons. Bountan, the former Brigade commander, leads a charge through the hospital. Pavi loses her crutch in the chaos and still refuses her sister's help.

Nisha traps an attacker in stone. Pavi realizes another man is terrified and shields him in a shell of earth. In IGN's recap, that man is city guard Molin, whom Pavi calms by sticking him in a "cozy wall." Her compassion leads Karthik to realize that fear is the root of the affliction.

Energybending

According to FandomWire, Bountan leads the Anomaly to the infirmary, where it starts attacking. Pavi finally accepts Nisha's help, and the twins face the diamond-shaped Anomaly together.

Once again the Anomaly is drawn to them and unlocks a memory. The twins remember sleeping while their parents talked nearby, and their father saying the journey would take two weeks if they survived the Harshlands.

When the Anomaly's energy strikes their palms, it passes through them and vanishes. Karthik names what they did: energybending.

As GamesRadar+ points out, energybending has traditionally been learned only from past Avatars or lion turtles. Co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino told the outlet, "That's definitely a big part of their story." Our energybending story has more.

A call for help

By the end, a kindly doctor delivers Pavi's new prosthetic, and she bounces around the room.

Meanwhile, a few rebellious Brigade members demand answers from Chancellor Kayoko about the missing benders. Jae calms them down, then persuades Kayoko to ask the other havens for help. The chapter ends with her radio broadcast: Ellora is calling on any and all havens because it is in need. Whether the message arrives is left open.
