Paramount Pulls the Aang Movie from Theaters and Makes Paramount+ Avatar's Animated Home

Six new cast members were announced the same day, along with a fall 2026 streaming premiere.

Paramount+ announced that The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, then a working title, would skip its October 9, 2026 theatrical release and premiere on the streamer in fall 2026. Paramount+ also became the exclusive streaming home for Avatar Studios' animated projects, including Seven Havens, which Nickelodeon had first announced in February 2025.

The announcement added six cast members: Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Freida Pinto, Ke Huy Quan, Peta Sergeant and Dee Bradley Baker, returning as Appa and Momo. Steve Ahn joined William Mata as co-director.

Director Lauren Montgomery and many fans objected to losing the theatrical release. Paramount gave no reason. Slate later tied the shift to Skydance's takeover of Paramount.
