ViacomCBS Launches Avatar Studios with the Original Creators in Charge

At its February 2021 Investor Day, ViacomCBS announced Avatar Studios, a Nickelodeon division led by co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko to make new animated series and films. Its first announced project was an animated theatrical feature, which became Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.

The creators had left Netflix's live-action adaptation the year before.

Five and a half years later, Avatar Studios has released one film and one series, with three more books of Seven Havens and Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos still to come.
