Why Seven Havens? "There's a Reason," Say the Showrunners
Sehaj Sethi and Ethan Spaulding won't explain the number yet, but fans already have a theory about chakras.
At New York Comic Con, Polygon asked Seven Havens showrunners Sehaj Sethi and Ethan Spaulding why there are exactly seven havens and whether their places on the map mean anything. The two traded a look and a laugh. Both said there's a reason. Sethi added that they can't say why yet, but that it is important.
A popular fan theory ties the havens to the seven chakras. In the same interview Sethi noted that chakras, which Guru Pathik taught Aang in The Last Airbender, are a South Asian concept, and Seven Havens draws on South Asian culture more than the earlier shows did.
The episode titles add to the case. The first season is Book One: Survival, and its finale is called "The Root Chakra." In The Last Airbender, the root or earth chakra is the first one Aang opens, and Pathik says it deals with survival and is blocked by fear. A separate Polygon analysis points out that Ellora's motto is about survival, that the city is built from red rock, the root chakra's color, and that both twins are earthbenders.
Nobody on the show has confirmed the link.
