Paramount+ Orders Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, a Comedic Prequel About the Teenage Water Tribe Avatar
Bryan Konietzko will run the series. There's no date, cast or episode count yet.
The next Avatar series heads into the past. At the same NYCC panel that renewed Seven Havens, DiMartino and Konietzko revealed Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, an animated Paramount+ original about Kuruk, the Water Tribe Avatar who came just before Kyoshi.
In the official logline, a rebellious teenage Kuruk breaks with thousands of years of tradition and learns the four elements by travelling the world, staying ahead of an angry teacher, rowdy pirates and chaotic spirits. Konietzko is showrunner, and Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios are producing.
Gizmodo and The Comics Beat report that Konietzko pitched the show to the crowd as an action comedy and the most comedic Avatar series yet. His reasoning was that it covers a peaceful stretch of Kuruk's life, before the losses that earlier stories describe.
Paramount+ released first-look art of Kuruk and his pet Nikik, which Entertainment Weekly describes as a koala-otter. No premiere window, voice cast, episode count or animation studio has been announced. Official materials do not give Kuruk's age; the figure of 14 comes from Knight Edge Media's earlier casting reports.
