Report: Kuruk's First Team Avatar Will Be All Water Tribe, Including an Icebender Named Hopa

Before Paramount+ announced Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos on October 9, Knight Edge Media published a run of reports on the show's characters. Its September 24 piece described a teenage Team Avatar made up entirely of Water Tribe kids, separate from the friends Kuruk travels with in F.C. Yee's Kyoshi novels.

According to the report:

• Misunka, codenamed "Meebs" in casting calls, is the son of the Northern Water Tribe's chief.
• Hopa can icebend but can't waterbend in the usual way, and Kuruk has a crush on her.
• Gawose, codenamed "Deela," is Kuruk's middle-aged waterbending teacher, who ends up hunting him across the world.
• Fifth Nation pirates are the running threat at sea.

One detail has already checked out. Knight Edge said Kuruk would have a koala-otter named Nikik, and Paramount+ released first-look art of Nikik at New York Comic Con.

Other claims don't match the official announcement. Knight Edge named Migizi Pensoneau as showrunner, but Paramount+ credits Bryan Konietzko. Paramount+ has not confirmed any of the characters above, the cast or Kuruk's exact age. Our Kuruk tracker labels which details are official and which are reports.
