Seven Havens Chapter 1 Recap: "On the Horizon"

A festival, a runaway beetle and a tornado: how the first episode of Avatar: Seven Havens sets everything in motion.

Full spoilers for Chapter 1 of Avatar: Seven Havens.

The first episode wastes no time showing us a world that has turned against the Avatar.

A city that celebrates Korra's fall Ellora is throwing a festival for the founding of the Seven Havens, complete with a children's play about the Cataclysm that tells the city's version of events: Avatar Korra caused it. In this world, every known bender registers with the Bending Brigade, which guards the haven from the Harshlands outside.

Meet Pavi and Jae Pavi, voiced by Saheli Khan, is a nine-year-old with one leg who lives on the outskirts of the city with her cat-monkey Geet. She slips into town to return a beetle to its family and ends up accidentally freeing a swarm of bugs in the middle of the festival.

Jae, a squad leader in the Brigade voiced by Major Curda, spots her earthbending. Jae has been raised to fear the Avatar and is training to fight one, so a rogue bender in the crowd is exactly what he's on the lookout for.

The twist in the storm Pavi runs into the Harshlands as a tornado rolls in, and Jae follows. When the storm closes in, she stops it by airbending. A second element means only one thing: Pavi is the Avatar.

Jae takes her back to Brigade headquarters and his captain, Karthik. The episode ends on Pavi coming face to face with a girl who looks exactly like her.

Next: Chapter 2, "Into the Storm".
